About The Book

Two colleagues sit in neighbouring cubicles. They earn the same salary, work the same hours, and take home the same amount on the first of every month. Thirty years later, one retires worried about money. The other retires with choices.

2 Cubicles, 2 Futures follows Karan and Rudra, two ordinary professionals whose lives split because of a handful of money decisions, not because of luck or a bigger paycheck. Along the way you also meet Laxmi, a freelance designer whose income arrives unevenly, to show that the same principles work without a fixed salary.

Written for India’s salaried professionals, the book answers the questions every beginner asks, in plain language and in order:

Why should you invest when a savings account feels safe?
When should you start, and what does waiting really cost?
How much should you invest, and where should an emergency fund sit?
Where should the money go: stocks, mutual funds, or other options?
How do you take money out in retirement without running out?
Which common mistakes quietly undo years of good decisions?
How do taxes change what you actually keep?
Every chapter uses simple tables, charts and Indian rupee examples, and ends with a short action you can take in fifteen minutes. There is no jargon, no get-rich-quick promise and no tips on picking the next hot stock.

If you have ever felt relief on salary day and dread by the middle of the month, this book will show you where the two futures begin, and which one you can still choose.

All figures are illustrative. This book is for education and is not investment advice.

About The Author

Karan K Gokani is an AMFI-registered Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN-253913) based in Rajkot, Gujarat. Since 2022 he has run Gokani Investment, helping everyday investors start and stay invested through mutual funds. He holds the NISM Series V-A: Mutual Fund Distributors certification.

Karan continues to work in the corporate world. Over 11 years of working alongside salaried colleagues, he has seen the same pattern again and again. Some people on decent salaries quietly built real wealth, while others earning far more ruined their finances. The difference was never income. It was awareness.

He wrote 2 Cubicles, 2 Futures to create that awareness, because it is the first step on the path to financial freedom.
