This biopic of mine traces my 50 + years of working in Airline Engineering. Biopic brings out several events which lead to my joining Indian Airlines. This will fascinate readers that how destiny plays a significant role in shaping professional journey.
Narrative further elaborates that once you are into a career, how you can make best of the eco system you are in. Only recipe for this is continuous learning and putting in your best each day without expecting results. If you put in your best, you keep growing professionally. Recognition also comes may be belatedly. My 35 years journey in Indian Airlines is manifestation of this.
I superannuated from Indian Airlines without knowing what lies ahead for me. Here again stroke of destiny brought me in contact with Owners of IndiGo. What followed is another fascinating journey. I personally thought that IndiGo journey may at best last for 5 to 7 years. Again, my tenure of 19 years in IndiGo is summary of continuous good performance with sincerity, dedication and commitment.
Something inside me kept encouraging me to put my 50 + years aviation journey in a biopic. I have done this for benefit of hundreds of Aviation professionals!!
About The Author
I did my BTech (Mechanical Engineering) from I.I.T, Delhi in 1968. I got selected in Indian Railways thru UPSC conducted Engineering Services examination. Post joining Railways, I got job in Indian Airlines. I resigned from Railways to join Indian Airlines as 'Graduate Engineer Trainee' in April 1970.
Airlines job brought me in touch with several facets of aircraft maintenance engineering. This job provided opportunities for learning on continuous basis. During my tenure of 35 years in Indian Airlines, I acquired my professional training and DGCA certification licenses on several aircraft types (Boeing 737, Airbus A300 and Airbus A320). For several years I worked in aircraft certification before moving to management cadre. Here also my job assignments were in the 'Maintenance Activity' centres. This provided me on continuous basis to hone my aircraft knowledge besides managing operational areas at various levels. My management style of being supportive, collaborative, empathetic and focussed on increasing productivity sharpened thru the years.
My job in Indian Airlines required me to travel to visit several MRO (Maintenance Repair Overhaul) organizations of repute. This brought great learning in terms of best practices used outside.
As I moved int Sr. Management position in Indian Airlines, my bandwidth expanded. I superannuated from Indian Airlines as Director of Engineering in May 2005. Airline business in India was growing. Several airlines started operation in year 2005. New start up, IndiGo ordered 100 A320 aircraft in June 2005. I got selected in IndiGo. This provided a perfect platform to use my years of airline experience. IndiGo did well. I continued to be part of IndiGo for 19 long years.
