About The Book
The discipline of exercise therapy lies at the heart of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, serving as a cornerstone in restoring, maintaining, and enhancing physical function in individuals across all age groups. Fundamentals of Exercise Modalities (FoEM) has been carefully crafted to provide a structured, syllabus-aligned learning experience for undergraduate students of physiotherapy and allied health sciences, particularly those enrolled under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) curriculum.
This book aims to bridge foundational theoretical principles with practical skills necessary for effective therapeutic intervention. From the biomechanics of human motion to the nuanced techniques of manual muscle testing, the book walks learners through all critical stages of physical rehabilitation. The content is presented unit-wise, beginning with the principles of exercise therapy and leading into specific clinical techniques such as joint range measurement, therapeutic exercises, and soft tissue manipulation. Each chapter is designed to cultivate a step-wise understanding, combining conceptual clarity with clinical applicability.
Incorporating both classical methodologies and contemporary practices, the book emphasizes hands-on demonstrations, therapeutic rationales, physiological underpinnings, and contraindications-offering a holistic view of each exercise modality. Clinical relevance is highlighted throughout, ensuring that learners are not only proficient in technique but also capable of critical thinking and patient - centred application.
Special attention has been given to aligning with the NCAHP guidelines, ensuring this book serves as a trusted academic companion throughout the learning journey. It is also intended to support educators and clinical instructors in delivering a consistent and comprehensive teaching module.
We hope this book inspires not only competent practice but also a deeper appreciation for the science and art behind therapeutic exercise.
