About The Book
Homeward Air is a tapestry of stories shaped by the quiet, enduring spirit of Uttarakhand—a land that never truly lets go of those who belong to it. Rooted in the mountains yet reaching far beyond them, these stories explore the delicate terrain between memory and reality, longing and belonging, departure and return. Each narrative captures moments that appear ordinary at first glance but hold within them the profound wisdom of the hills: that silence speaks, that resilience can be gentle, and that home is often an inner geography as much as a place on the map.
Through characters who stay and those who wander, the book evokes the scent of rain on slate roofs, the calm of dusk settling over valleys, and the whisper of folk songs carried by mountain winds. The stories traverse themes of loss, love, courage, and healing—revealing how the simplest gestures can contain entire worlds.
Drawing from the cultural rhythms, landscapes, and lived textures of her Himalayan roots, Himani Usha Tripathi offers a compelling tribute to her motherland. Homeward Air is both a literary homecoming and an intimate reflection on how the places that shape us continue to breathe within us, long after we have left their soil.
