About The Book
This book is a translation of Jagadguru Mahopadesham, originally written in Telugu by Brahmasri Yellamraju Srinivasarao garu. In his prelude, he emphasizes that Adi Shankaracharya possessed an all-encompassing vision, through which he discerned Advaita as the essence of the entire spiritual literature of Sanatana Dharma. With this insight, he corrected the shortcomings of the six Darshanas. The profound wisdom of Advaita, concealed within the Upanishads, was unearthed and polished by Acharya, making it shine like a flawless diamond. Without him, this treasure would have remained hidden, its brilliance never reaching humanity.
While worldly sciences are relative and cannot resolve all of life’s challenges, the science of Advaita—being a subjective and experiential discipline—offers solutions to every problem and bestows true bliss upon humanity. Yet this knowledge is dispersed across Jagadguru’s commentaries on the Prasthana Traya—the Upanishads, Brahmasutras and Bhagavad Gita. Organizing these teachings into a coherent sequence to foster clear understanding of the profound Advaita philosophy, and to dispel prevailing misconceptions, is no easy task.
After years of immersing himself in the literary ocean of Jagadguru, Brahmasri Yellamraju garu undertook this monumental effort. He compiled Jagadguru Mahopadesham to present these teachings in an accessible form. He assures that those who partake of this nectar will attain immortality, fulfill their lives, and thereby bring fulfillment to his own as well.
About The Author
This English translation of Jagadguru Mahopadesham brings to a wider audience the profound teachings of Brahmasri Yellamraju Sreenivasarao garu, a revered spiritual preceptor and exponent of Shankara’s Advaita philosophy. The works of Adi Shankaracharya deeply rooted in timeless wisdom, have guided seekers toward clarity and self-realization.
The translator, Dr. Pulipati Chandrasekhar, has spent four decades as a Professor of Biochemistry, yet his life has been equally shaped by spirituality. Raised under the influence of his father, Sri Pulipati Venkatasubbaih garu—a teacher and spiritual master who inspired seekers across Telugu-speaking states—Dr. Chandrasekhar inherited a deep devotion to spiritual study and practice.
His journey includes active association with the Chinmaya Mission in Kurnool during the 1980s, where he served as secretary and later president. He also collaborated with Sri Vyasashram, Yerpedu, translating their Telugu magazine "Yathartha Bhaarathi" into English for circulation in the USA. Notably, he translated the autobiography of Swami Chaitanyananda, founder of Shivanandashram, Uttarakasi, into Telugu under the title "Sudeergha Atma Vikasa Yatra".
Later, in Hyderabad, Dr. Chandrasekhar was fortunate to attend discourses by Brahmasri Yellamraju Sreenivasarao garu and study his works. His spiritual explorations continued in Nepal, where he undertook comparative study of Srimad Bhagavad Gita Sadhak-Sanjivini and Vivekachoodamani with his colleague Dr. Satyavrat Gaur. To share Jagadguru Mahopadesham with him, he translated it into English. Encouraged by his son Sreekanth, the translation was refined and is now published with the support of M/S Astiva Prakashan.
This work stands as a bridge between traditions, offering seekers the wisdom of Advaita in accessible form.
