About the Book
Risk Management in Modern Indian Banking
A Practitioner’s Compendium for the Contemporary Risk Professional
In an era where a cyberattack in one continent can trigger liquidity crises across others, risk management has ceased to be a back-office function — it has become existential.
This comprehensive compendium offers banking and finance professionals a rigorous, India-centric guide to navigating the full spectrum of risks that define modern banking. Structured across five parts and nineteen chapters, it moves seamlessly from foundational principles to frontier challenges — equally valuable for the seasoned risk officer and the ambitious newcomer.
The book grounds readers in the evolving risk landscape and the Basel regulatory continuum before examining the six core pillars of bank risk: credit, market, liquidity, operational, capital, and funds transfer pricing. Each chapter blends global frameworks with Indian regulatory reality, drawing on RBI guidelines, MSME lending dynamics, and India’s UPI ecosystem.
The second half ventures into territory most textbooks ignore: fraud risk, compliance, cybersecurity, business continuity, and social media hazards. The final section addresses frontier risks — climate and ESG, AI and FinTech-driven technology risk, and concentration risk — before synthesising everything into an integrated Enterprise Risk Management framework.
What distinguishes this compendium is its practitioner’s voice. Concepts are anchored in real-world scenarios, Indian regulatory developments, and contemporary case studies. Chapter-wise MCQs, a rich glossary, and a comprehensive bibliography make it an indispensable resource for professionals preparing for IIBF examinations, FRM certifications, or simply seeking to sharpen their risk acumen.
For those who manage risk in Indian banking, this is the definitive desk reference.
