About the Book
Escalation is often viewed as confrontation, yet in today’s matrix-driven workplaces it has become a core leadership capability. The Art of Escalation reframes escalation as a thoughtful, disciplined act grounded in clarity, courage, and emotional intelligence. Blending real-world corporate scenarios with practical frameworks, the book explores why issues rise, why conversations stall, and how timing and communication shape outcomes far more than process alone.
With frameworks such as CFIA (Clarify–Frame–Inform–Act) and the evolved CIAE+ (Context–Impact–Ask–Evidence–Empathy), the book provides a steady guide to handling difficult moments without damaging relationships. From cross-cultural nuance to crisis situations, early-warning signals to boardroom dynamics, it offers a practical and human approach to navigating pressure.
More than a guide to escalation, this is a guide for professionals on how to speak up thoughtfully, align effectively, and lead with empathy and composure.
About the Author
Saurabh Bhutani is a finance professional with over two decades of experience across reporting, compliance, and cross-border teams. A Chartered Accountant by profession, his journey through complex, matrix-driven organizations has given him a lived understanding of why escalations so often fail — not because systems are broken, but because of timing, tone, and the way people experience pressure.
Drawing from these real-world experiences, his first book The Art of Escalation Managing Courage and Conflict in the Modern Workplace explores the subtle discipline behind raising issues responsibly and navigating difficult moments with courage, clarity, and empathy.
