About The Book
24 Tirthankara Story Paintings
In Jainism, the term Tirthankara refers to the 24 great souls who attained enlightenment through intense self-penance. They established the spiritual path (tirtha) that enables beings to cross the ocean of worldly existence; therefore, they are called Tirthankaras. A Tirthankara is one who helps humanity cross the “river of human suffering,” known as paayaab, which also signifies a spiritual ford or pilgrimage.
In these paintings, the exalted forms of the 24 Tirthankaras are depicted through brief and systematic descriptions, including their images, colours, associated trees, symbols, and life stories.
Spirituality is a higher form of science. Since ancient times, continuous research has been carried out on the relationship between human inner nature and the external world. This research was undertaken by sages known as Hrishimunis, with the aim of fostering the psycho-social development of human beings. Society can draw deep inspiration from the creative expressions presented in these paintings.
